NCM team to visit riot-hit Mau

New Delhi, Oct. 19 (UNI): The National Commission for Minorities (NCM) will send a team to the riot-affected Mau in Uttar Pradesh for an on-the-spot inquiry into the communal violence there which has claimed seven lives.

The three-member team will be led by NCM vice-chairman, M S Usmani, Commission sources said on Tuesday.

The decision to send an NCM team was taken at a meeting chaired by Commission chairperson, Tarlochan Singh.

The team will meet senior state government officials and representatives of all communities, the sources said.

"The visit of the team will help in restoring peace and creating confidence among the people," an NCM official said.

The other members of the team are NCM member V V Augustine and NCM joint secretary, A Banerji.

Seven people have died and 39 others suffered injuries in the communal riots. The Uttar Pradesh government has suspended four senior civil and police officials and ordered a high-level probe.
